Memories of the NYO&W (VHS)

Memories of the NYO&W (VHS)

SKU: OW

This fine program presents a nostalgic look at the fabled NYO&W from 1946 through the early 1950s. The original footage was shot on 8mm black-and-white movie film, and while it may not be up to current-day production standards, it does give an excellent "feel" for the railroad.

We've also added some interesting bonus footage, in the form of a delightful Railroad Quiz produced by the Association of American Railroads (AAR) in the early 1950s.

Part I, filmed by rail book publisher Hal Carstens, opens with a ferry ride across New York Harbor on a New York Central boat, followed by several scenes in Weehawken Terminal. Then, climb aboard F3 503 for a cab ride to Roscoe, shot from the locomotive cab. The engine is wyed, and Hal rides the cab again for the return trip.

Part II features a tour of the New York Ontario & Western from Weehawken to Liberty, NY, shot onboard the train from an open-platform observation car. Highlights include a meet with an O&W FT-powered reefer train and trackside action at Liberty.

Part III covers a June 9, 1946 Railroad Enthusiasts' excursion to upstate New York. There are more onboard scenes and some trackside action featuring several handsome O&W 4-8-2s. All three rides include NYC and O&W steam and diesel trains encountered along the way.
