This action-packed full-color video presents a portrait of the Long Island Railroad during the summer of 1984.
You’ll see exciting sequences of the famous Alco FA “power packs”, GP38s, MP1500s, and silver MU trains.
The program opens with a visit to the Long Island City yards for a look at morning rush hour, with both arriving and departing trains. The action continues at Mineola, where express trains roar through the station at high speed, while others enter and leave the scenic Oyster Bay Branch.
Then it’s back to Long Island City again to see a wide variety of trains departing for their outbound commuter runs. With the recent upgrading of equipment on the LIRR, the tape presents a nostalgic portrait of an interesting era in the history of this famous railroad.
We’ve also included exciting bonus footage featuring an interesting variety of diesel power in action on Conrail’s River Line (now CSX) and the nearby Susquehanna Railroad in northern New Jersey, videotaped in the late 1990s!
