MOUNT ADAMS INCLINE (Cincinnati) CLEVELAND RAILWAY CO. SHAKER HEIGHTS RAPID TRANSIT CO. COLUMBUS RAILWAY CO. DAYTON CITY RAILWAY DETROIT DEPT. OF STREET RAILWAYS ST. LOUIS PUBLIC SERVICE CO.VOLUME II presents vignettes of several large traction properties in the Chicago and Milwaukee areas, including: THE MILWAUKEE ELECTRIC RAILWAY & LIGHT CO. (TMERL): With over 400 miles of track, this was one of the largest systems in the Midwest. Following the Great Depression, the TMERL began to contract, resulting in a number of line closings. Seen here is the last run over the Port Washington interurban line, filmed on March 28, 1948. This black-and-white sequence has extensive trackside and onboard coverage of the last-day activities. CHICAGO SURFACE LINES AND CHICAGO “L”: High-quality 16mm film footage by Sid Silleck offers views of streetcars, elevated trains, and even North Shore Line trains at a variety of interesting locations.
