This fine program depicts the Santa Fe's Carlsbad Subdivision in the mid-1960's, as filmed by the late railfan photographer William Ashley Cooper. Bill was in the Air Force at the time, stationed at the famed air base in Roswell, NM. Armed with an 8mm movie camera, Bill covered the interesting activities on the Carlsbad Sub and also on the nearby main line in the Clovis and Texico areas.
One of Bill's favorite subjects was Santa Fe's train 25/26, which made a daily roundtrip from Clovis to Carlsbad and return. This train featured a variety of motive power, inlcuding motor cars M-160 and M-190 pulling a coach or two, or a single Alco PA or Geep pulling a round-end observation car!
There was plenty of freight action on the Sub, and Bill filmed many famous passenger trains on the main line, pulled by impressive lashups of smoky Alco PA's and EMD F-units. As a bonus, we've also included the classic Santa Fe 16mm color sound film promoting the luxurious Super Chief train!
