Here's a spectacular program featuring Union Pacific Challenger 4-6-6-4 3985 - the world's largest operating steam locomotive - at work on freight and passenger trains between Cheyenne, Wyoming and Omaha, Nebraska.
The program opens with a brief history of the Challengers, illustrated with rare color archive film, which also includes beautiful color scenes of Union Pacific 4-8-4s, 4-12-2s and the huge Big Boy 4-8-8-4s.
Contemporary action begins as the 3985 departs Cheyenne and acclerates to 55 mph for the run over Archer Hill. To supplement exciting trackside, in-cab and pacing sequences, Mark I's exclusive ChoochCam locomotive mounted minicams capture thrilling closeup views of drivers, rods and valve gear, offering a unique new perspective of this magnificent machine in action. Beatifully photographed night runbys and pacing scenes, and even exquisite sunrise shots are also included!
Produduced in cooperation with the Union Pacific Railroad and Stephen A. Lee, Manager - Train Operating Practices.
