THIRD AVENUE RAILWAY SYSTEM, VOL. 2 - Nostalgic Trolley Tour 12 (VHS)
SKU: T12
Encompassing about 400 miles of track and some 1,500 trolleys, the Third Avenue made it possible to ride trolleys all the way from the Battery in lower Manhattan to the northern boundary of Westchester County. From Times Square to rural Yonkers routes, this huge system provided an endless variety of scenery and rolling stock for ordinary travellers and trolley enthusiasts alike. This fine three-part series offers a nostalgic look at one of the most interesting street railway systems in the eastern U.S. Manhattan lines were abandoned in June, 1947, while the last Yonkers trolleys ran on November 9, 1952.
Volume II features lines in the northern Bronx and western Westchester County. Bronx lines depicted include B - Boston Road, B - Bailey Avenue, C - Bronx-Van Cortland Park, S - Southern Boulevard, W - Webster-White Plains, and the 207th St. Crosstown line. Westchester routes feature all lines in Yonkers with extensive coverage of the 5 - Nepperhan Avenue line, with its rustic side-of-the-road right-of-way, plus Getty Square scenes and a visit to the Mt. Vernon shops.
