THE SCHUYLKILL SHIFTER: Reading 4-8-4 2102 Hauls Coal (VHS)
SKU: SS
This unusual program presents ex-Reading 4-8-4 2102, now operated by the Blue Mountain and Reading Railroad in coal train service during April 1991.
Beginning with a short history of the famous Reading T-1 class, the program offers a brief overview of the 2102's career as an excursion locomotive, from the famed Reading Rambles of the early 1960s to her purchase by the BM&R.
Then host Jim Boyd, Editor Emeritus of Railfan Magazine, follows the 2102 as she hauls coal over the former Reading main line. Three camera crews provide full coverage of this event - the first time a Reading T-1 has pulled a coal train on home rails since steam was retired! All train movements are covered, including locomotive preparation, switching and light engine moves. As a special bonus, the 2102 was equipped with an authentic Reading "hooter" freight whistle which will send chills down your spine.
60 Minutes *VHS* Full Color * Stereo Soundtrack Produced by Marc S. Balkin Written and Narrated by Jim Boyd
